About the Scheme

Usttad” is a scheme implemented since 2014-15 for upgrading the skills and in training in traditional Arts/Crafts for Development.
India is known for its traditions and culture, Minority communities in India are known for their traditional skills, arts & crafts but due to forces of competitive market and globalization and also due to deteriorating socio-economic condition of master craftsmen/artisan, these skills are not being pursued by the young generation. Ministry of Minority Affairs is of firm conviction that these arts/ crafts are needed to be preserved especially traditional skills, arts & crafts of the minority communities. USTTAD scheme aims to preserve heritage of traditional arts and crafts of minority communities and build capacity of traditional crafts persons and artisans and establish linkages of traditional skills with the global market.

Objective of Scheme

  • To build capacity of master craftsmen/artisans and training of young generation through the master craftsmen/ artisans for traditional arts/crafts.
  • Set up standards of identified arts/ crafts and their documentation.
  • To establish linkages of traditional skills with the global market.
  • To improve employability of existing workers, school dropouts etc.
  • To generate means of better livelihood for marginalized minorities and bring them in the mainstream.
  • To enable minorities to avail opportunities in the growing market.
  • To ensure dignity of labour.
    Design development and Research in traditional arts/crafts.

Admission Criteria

  • Age from 14 to 45 years.
  • The candidate should not be either professionally qualified or have already obtained any such training in any previous such programme of skills.
  • 33% reservation for minority girls.
  • Stipend and post placement support as per norms of ministry of minority affairs.
  • Documents required for admission.(Aadhar card, Bank passbook, Mark list of previous exam, Leaving certificate, passport size photograph)
